Overview
The AT OEM Technical Instructor will be responsible for delivering
technical training to OEM Dealer technicians. This position will
provide coaching, technical expertise and encouragement while
allowing technicians or students structured opportunities to
improve their own proficiency. They will utilize state of the art
audiovisual equipment and work shop exercises to enhance the
technician's automotive knowledge. One should enjoy making
connections and building rapport with others in a fast-paced,
collaborative, hands-on environment. Lab and classroom instruction
may be delivered at customer or non-UTI facility. Effective
presentation skills are vital in this role, as well as the ability
to ensure standards and goals are met in a given timeframe, this
may include independent decision-making. Therefore, planning and
problem-solving skills are both essential for success in this
position.
Responsibilities
- Utilize strong OEM technical knowledge
to teach dealer technicians / MSAT students and enhance their
automotive skills. Instructor will be asked to use classroom
instruction along with a workshop environment to meet curriculum
requirements. Instructor delivery must be lively while observing
the OEM course delivery requirements.
- Presents and coaches technicians / MSAT students during
workshop exercises.
- Studies the presented material ahead of time and is able to
answer relevant questions.
- Studies training handouts, relevant materials and vehicle
systems through hands-on vehicle research.
- Comprehends the handouts, the instructor's guide and associated
curriculum. Prepares own notes within the instructor guide.
- Goes through all curriculum exercises prior to teaching the
course. Prepares the student worksheets and has the expected
answers/results marked within the instructor's guide.
- For every course, has a specific set of learning objectives as
outlined in the instructor's guide. Follows the instructor's
guide's learning objectives and outline.
- Ensures professional appearance of the student seating area,
the student workshop area, and training vehicles. Makes sure that
the storage areas stay uncluttered.
- Completes assigned administrative tasks in a timely
manner.
- Ensures that all Safety Regulations and OSHA requirements are
met and adhered to. Reports unsatisfactory conditions immediately
and/or takes immediate action to resolve them.
- In cooperation with the OEM training department, ensures the
complete availability of training handouts, required tools and
equipment items and records the training outcomes as directed by
OEM management.

Qualifications
Education / Experience
- High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
- Vocational School Certificate or Degree in Applied Sciences
recommended.
- ASE Certifications as required by OEM
- Ability to deliver the scope of the OEM courses, as determined
by OEM.
- Prior OEM instructional experience preferred.
- Five years' experience as an instructor in technical/soft
skills preferred.
- Prior history as an OEM technician preferred.
- Prior history as an automotive technician required.
- Technical experience with OEM vehicles required.Skills
- Proficient in MS Office, i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to manage OEM software applications and curriculum on
UTI and OEM computers
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and
written.
- Ability to use good judgment, problem-solving and
decision-making skills.
- Ability to interface with OEM dealer personnel may be
required.
- Must be able to set-up, deliver and remove invasive and
non-invasive vehicle faults.Abilities
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds 5%
or less of the workday
- Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the
workday
- Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and
reason for all of the workday
- Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for
prolonged periods throughout the workday.
- Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for
prolonged periods throughout the workday. Work Environment
- Most duties are inside the training building but may require
operations to be performed outdoors or at an off-site
location.
- A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record is
required.
