This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551
S. Rural Road, Tempe AZ (on Rural Road South of Apache Blvd).
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D)
upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of
employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving
record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month
period from date of hire.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of
employment to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory
clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test. May participate
in programs which involve adherence to program regulations,
including physical exam, annual testing, x-rays, medication,
vaccinations at ASU expense and completion of a Health Surveillance
Questionnaire.

Job Description:
Facilities Development and Management seeks a Plan Reviewer-
Construction Inspector, Senior whose primary responsibility is to
perform building inspections for renovation and new construction
projects and to perform plan reviews of construction documents to
ensure compliance with appropriate building codes and project
requirements.
CLOSE DATE: May 8, 2025
Essential Duties:
Interpret codes and regulations related to plans review and
construction projects; research and bring forward recommendations
for updates.
Review building plans to determine code compliance and compliance
with applicable laws, codes and standards under the jurisdiction of
ASU.
Approve or deny plans as appropriate, sign off on approved plans
and legal documents.
Observes work in progress to ensure conformance with applicable
requirements and acceptable standards of workmanship.
Review existing mechanical systems for safety requirements.
Prepare reports and inspection documentation, maintain all required
records. Supervise special inspections and assists building
inspections on difficult or unusual code requirements for
residential and commercial structures.
Access various construction sites and campus tunnels to perform
visual inspections.
Conduct field/site visits when needed.
Inspect sites to identify potential construction deficiencies due
to existing items not being reflected in construction plans.
Consult with architects, engineers, designers, and contractors
concerning deficiencies with structural and non-structural
requirements.
Explain codes and regulations, review plans prior to submittal.
Research alternate products, materials and methods of construction
for compliance and make recommendations to the Building
Official.
Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives
as well as policies and procedures as directed by the Building
Official.
Establish schedules and methods for plan reviews and permit
issuance. Evaluate operations and activities of assigned
responsibilities.
Recommend improvements and modifications or changes in codes to
resolve design and interpretation issues and to accommodate new
materials, design concepts and initiatives.
Attend various project meetings to provide information on ASU's
building code requirements, policies and procedures.
Serve as technical advisor.
Prepare regularly scheduled and Ad Hoc reports.
Answer questions and provide amplifying data concerning code and
plan check reports; advise building inspectors of any potential
issues.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-3:00 PM
Salary: $72,000 - $79,000
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in planning review for ADA, electrical, mechanical and
structural code for commercial projects
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel,
Outlook).
Demonstrated Knowledge of Local, state and federal building
codes
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Evidence of Building Plans Examiner certification from the
International Code Council (ICC).
Evidence of plans Review certificate from the International Code
Council (ICC).
Certification in plumbing, electrical and mechanical code or other
disciplines
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in a variety of internal and external
settings.
Access various construction sites and campus tunnels to perform
visual construction inspections which involves stooping, walking on
uneven surfaces, kneeling, crawling in confined spaces, climbing
stairs and ladders, working on scaffolding and standing and walking
for long periods of time in extreme summer temperatures.
Activities require lifting, bending and carrying objects up to 50
pounds. Participate in field work which requires exposure to dirt,
dust, and inclement weather.
Climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding at heights above thirty (30)
feet.
May also perform some activities in an environmentally controlled
office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding
and manipulating a computer mouse.
Require the ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write,
see and hear to perform essential functions.
Position requires the ability to drive University Vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to
the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of
experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills
and abilities have been achieved.
