Apply today!General SummaryThe Planner/Scheduler is to schedule 100% of available mechanics hours against work orders on a daily and weekly basis. Plans work in coordination with production needs, schedules against mechanic availability, and captures all work accomplished in the plant in the CMMS system.The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for initiation of work orders in SAP, ordering required parts, planning work, staging parts, scheduling the work, capturing data from completed work orders in SAP.The Planner/Scheduler supports the function of the plant maintenance group by developing job plans, research and requisition parts needed, continual review of Preventative Maintenance (PM) process, and participate in Breakdown Elimination Analysis on machinery. Evaluate data from downtime and stockroom reports to determine the most critical needs for repairs.Essential Job Duties1. Is responsible for weekly as well as daily planning and scheduling of work orders. Develops, manages, and prints the weekly maintenance work schedule after coordination and prioritization of production in planning session.Weekly planning involves the regular analysis of backlog work relative to available craft personnel and parts. Attends meetings with the production planning department and participates in the overall plant scheduling of the following week's work, and negotiates for downtime "windows" during which preventive and corrective maintenance requiring downtime can be performed.2. Scheduling of and accounting for the time of all mechanics and ensuring that the work scheduled balances with the man-hours available so that a full day's work is provided each person.3. Taking manpower schedule from leads to match with production priorities to produce weekly work schedules. Adjusts schedule on a daily basis for emergency work (P1) and urgent (P2) time sensitive work orders.4. All work requests flow through the scheduler. After evaluation and approval/disapproval process the work order is entered into SAP.5. Maintains backlog files of work orders awaiting scheduling in accordance with their priority and requested completion date. Those jobs unplanned, requiring engineering, waiting for materials, waiting for downtime, etc., are filed accordingly. When ready for scheduling, work orders are reviewed in production meeting for entry into the Weekly Schedule.6. Forecasts special maintenance manpower needs for weekends, holidays, and projects done in house and coordinates these requirements through maintenance leads and the maintenance manager.7. Follows up to ensure the completed schedules and work orders are returned at the proper time. Carefully reviews completed schedules and corresponding work orders returned by the maintenance supervisors / leads, monitor work order progress, and prepare associated reports.8. Makes recommendations to production concerning long-range maintenance needs and, in collaboration with production, prepares a weekly forecast of all jobs expected to be scheduled for the following week. Maintains a list of planned work orders requiring equipment to be down, so that some or all can be performed in the event of an unscheduled downtime. These lists, by machine ID, are reviewed and updated weekly.9. Develop and sustain reliability programs (PM) for maintenance work.10. Create risk based equipment criticality ranking.11. Determine time directed, condition directed, failure finding, and run to failure equipment.12. Reviews with the Maintenance Leads the actual labor expended versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs, in order to determine corrective measures needed to improve the accuracy of estimating and improving methods of doing work. Job estimates are continually refined and thereby reflect improving accuracy and consistency; representing fair as well as challenging expectancies.13. Develops a file of standard work orders (plans) for regularly recurring repair jobs, based on historical experience, to simplify the planning process.14. Research, price, and requisition parts if not on hand and add as needed to Material Master Inventory List suggested min/max status. Stages non-stocked parts with proper work orders when received.15. Work with outside vendors/contractors on services, parts, and retrofits, obtaining quotes, service reports and completed vendor visit reports.16. Requisitioning and receiving of parts and services.17. Examination of jobs to be done and determination of scope and best way to accomplish the work. Consults with requester or production supervisor when necessary for clarification.18. Works with Leads and Mechanics to obtain blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed, from files or other sources. Makes any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.19. Works with Leads and Mechanics and identifies, orders, kits when needed, stages and reserves materials required for work orders. Enters material needs on the work order and location. Parts requiring expediting and those with extended delivery times will be relayed to Maintenance Manager.20. Ensures the safety needs are given a top priority in work planning and scheduling.21. Promotes the conservation of energy.22. Keeps the Maintenance Manager properly informed on all abnormal or critical situations.23. Make recommendations for system improvement.24. Maintains files of completed work orders and schedules for one year.25. Works with Leads and Mechanics to develop and maintain reference systems (library) including a file of Planned Job Packages for recurring jobs.26. Recommend additions to storeroom stock.27. Develops and revises job estimates and consults with Maintenance Manager.28. Performs other tasks and special assignments as requested by the Maintenance Manager.Scope of Responsibility No direct reports. Participate in Maintenance Department on-call schedule.The Planner/Scheduler is measured in the performance of his/her duties and execution of assigned responsibilities by:1. Orderly placement of work orders on the schedule(s) and their completion within the specified time frame.2. Receive work orders, evaluate, approve or disapprove, and return feedback to originator in a timely manor.3. Jobs worked and completed per schedule.4. Improvement in mean time between equipment failures.5. The accuracy of estimates of labor and material.6. The improved use of labor and improved plant condition as expressed by a reduction in emergencies, overtime hours worked and in unscheduled labor worked, and reduction of contractor support.7. The timely and accurate preparation and distribution of meaningful control reports.8. Reliability of plant machinery in scheduled function.9. Downtime verses run time (ODP).10. Identification of areas that have, high equipment maintenance costs, high amounts of process downtime, and same types of failures.11. The improved use of labor and improved plant condition as expressed by a reduction in emergencies, overtime hours worked and in unscheduled labor worked, and reduction of contractor support.Position Goals1. Maintains good working relationships with other organizational units in the plantKnowledge, Skills and Requirements Must be open to learning new processes and skills.1. Must have adequate plant knowledge of tasks required of mechanics, time it takes to complete those tasks, to estimate labor hours, know materials required, and to visualize the job to be performed.2. Has the ability to develop a schedule each week, adjust to daily needs, and keep the mechanics engaged in productive, meaningful work.3. Mechanical/electrical background necessary and tech school background desired.4. Good oral/written communication skills, administrative abilities, math comprehension, and possession of tact.5. Have or able to acquire a working knowledge of personal computers in a reasonable training period (typing skills helpful). Use the CMMS system to enter and complete work orders.6. Ability to understand what constitutes good instructions.7. Able to read blueprints, make sketches, and shop drawings.8. Understanding of the proper use of work orders, priorities; scheduling, etc.9. Ability to keep multiple jobs in control simultaneously.10. Ability to bring about order from chaos.11. Orientation and commitment to customer service.12. Style and capability commanding respect within maintenance, engineering, and operating organizationEducation and Experience Bachelor's degree (preferred not required).SAP ExperiencePhysical Demands Job will be 80% in plant environment. Noise level may be high. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.Work Environment Must be able work in hot and dusty environment when needed.Travel Required Limited travel - less than 10%Compensation and Benefits:The base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between$57,475.00 - $92,530.00Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
