Position description
Mayo Clinic Arizona has an exciting opportunity for an Acute Care
Nurse Practitioner or a Physician Assistant to join the Transplant
Abdominal Surgery team. This role supports the largest adult
abdominal transplant program in the country that performs over 500
kidney transplants, 200 liver transplants, and 20 pancreas
transplants per year with continual growth. Responsibilities
include primarily covering the inpatient service of surgical and
medical patients, with occasional assisting in the operating room
and outpatient wound clinic coverage. Other aspects include
Emergency Room consultation or admission and collaboration, and
consultation with other departments to effectively manage this
complex patient population. This individual would join a team of
highly efficient and hardworking team of providers to cover a 24/7
service, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has
advanced health assessment and decision-making skills, prepared
through a formal educational program that meets criteria
established by the profession. Certification from approved and
respective certifying body is required.
This individual works in collaboration with physicians and other
health care professionals to provide health care across the
continuum of care for assigned patients. The provision of care
includes, but is not limited to: obtaining patient history,
comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting
diagnostic tests, and prescribing pharmacological agents and
treatments and non-pharmacological therapies. Monitors the
effectiveness of the therapeutic interventions. Makes appropriate
referrals. Performs minor procedures as approved by the AZ
Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants. Runs multidisciplinary
rounds.
This individual must demonstrate the ability to assess data
reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret
information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is
required. The Physician Assistant demonstrates leadership through
involvement on committees and team projects, education, and
research and actively seeks to improve the practice through
performance improvement initiatives. Remains active in professional
organizations and participates in community activities.
