Summary Under the general direction of the Foreman (and
Superintendent), the pipelayer has the general responsibility for
assembling, connecting, and the installation of pipe systems for
wet utilities (storm or sanitation sewers, drains, and water mains)
and/or dry utilities (power, cable, communications, natural gas,
and conduit). Responsibilities Measure and mark pipes to required
length for cutting and threading; cut, thread, hammer, and weld
pipe to specifications using saws, pipe threaders, and benders;
connect pipe pieces and seals joints Secure pipes to structures
with clamps, brackets, and hangers Grout and clear manholes
Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipe lines using
pressure hydrostatic testing, observation, or other testing methods
Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement through
potholing and/or excavation Tap and drill holes into pipes to
introduce auxiliary line or devices Maintain a safe worksite and
exhibit safe work practices by following company rules and OSHA
regulations, including attendance at all required safety training
programs Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
including hard hat, eye protection, reflective vest, gloves and
composite-toed boots Be able to performs a wide variety of manual
labor tasks involving dexterous use of hand tools such as
pneumatic, electric, and hand tools Requirements High School
diploma or equivalent education 2 years of work related experience
in laying underground wet utilities (storm or sanitation sewers,
drains, and water mains) and/or dry utilities (power, cable,
communications, natural gas, and conduit) Knowledge of materials,
production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques
for maximizing the effective installation or repair of pipelines
Work within special standard of accuracy Must have flexibility in
personal schedule including weekday, overtime with occasional night
and weekend work Strong focus on safety, quality, integrity,
productivity, and teamwork OSHA, confined space, and related safety
training a plus Ability to stand and exert physical effort
performing manual labor most of the day Ability to lift up to 60
pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally Ability to work
in confined spaces Ability to understand and follow plans,
drawings, and directions (verbal and written) Willingness to wear
required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including hard hat,
eye protection, reflective vest, gloves and composite-toed boots
Must be able to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and
perform all job duties with no restrictions Knowledge of hand and
power tools required to perform the duty of a pipelayer Knowledge
or experience in underground dry and/or wet utility installation is
a must Knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and
regulations, and safety precautions to be observed in working on or
near roads and highways Ability to detect unsafe or hazardous
conditions of tools and work environment. Thorough knowledge of
safety standards and Underground Facilities Law (Blue Stake,
Arizona 811) Hold/obtain and maintain an OSHA 10 Certification Good
communication skills and the ability to interact in a team
environment Reliable transportation Bilingual English/Spanish a
plus Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests Work
Environment While performing the duties of this Job, the employee
is regularly exposed to: Wet and/or humid conditions Moving
mechanical parts Precarious places and narrow spaces Fumes or
airborne particles Outside weather conditions Extreme heat Frequent
and/or sustained loud noises The employee is occasionally exposed
to: Toxic or caustic chemicals Risk of electrical shock Risk of
vibration
